INKWENKWEZI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
More than just a game drive
Nestled along our breathtaking Wild Coast, Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve boasts four of the Big 5. BUT, what they lack in not having leopard can easily be made up by the fact that whale watching and viewing of the Sardine Run (the largest Oceanic Biomass Migration) is possible in season (June to September). The reserve offers many unique opportunities as it encompasses five different regional eco-systems (biomes) and a tidal estuary.
So … in addition to the popular safari style guided game drives, what else can one do at Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve?
UMTIZA FOREST WALK
Treat yourself to an unforgettable experience walking through one of South Africa’s unique indigenous forests. Not only do they boast one of the three last known populations of Umtiza trees and one of the only four populations of a rare Veniliodes cycad eating moth but also a vast variety of other indigenous trees and plants, most of which with some interesting traditional uses. Accompanied by a guide you will walk down to a lush riverbed which you will cross to access the pristine forest. Your guide will lead you along a narrow natural forest path sharing interesting information about many of the trees and plants along the way. Be sure to keep a lookout for some of our abundant birdlife like the elusive Knysna Turaco and Narina Trogon.
GUIDED QUAD BIKING TOUR
Take a leisurely, yet exciting ride through the reserve, viewing game in their natural habitat as you tackle the terrain on quads bikes. The quad bike trails take you through nature and the off road quad tours are perfectly designed for those with a sense of adventure and an appreciation for nature.
CANOEING
Experience a leisurely paddle down the tidal estuary towards the Glen Eden beach. Experience canoeing like no other starting in the Reserve and making your way back up the estuary to complete the course
BIRD WATCHING
Inkwenkwezi is also home to around 286 species of birds that have been identified making the Reserve a ‘must-visit’ for bird watchers.
RARE CYCAD FEEDING BUTTERFLY
There has been a recent discovery by Quartus Grobler of a very rare and complex species of moth called the Veniliodes setinata. The species used to occur in suitable areas near coastal grasslands from East London to Durban, but have become extremely scarce due to over-grazing, de-forestation, urban development etc. Today, only four localities, including Inkwenkwezi, are known where the butterfly still occurs.
ACCOMMODATION
The Reserve boasts a Bush Camp, consisting of six two-person lavish en-suite safari tents. The Valley Camp offers 12 guests accommodation in six custom designed luxury tents, which emphasize space and quality.
SUNDAY BUFFET LUNCH AT EMTHOMBENI RESTAURANT
Organise a family getaway from the busy town rush and enjoy a home-based cooked lunch. Choose from an extensive selection of our gourmet delights, and then settle in to appreciate the scenery from the expansive dining deck. A full buffet menu is served at Emthombeni Restaurant. Enjoy the tranquility and the scenery from the deck that overlooks the Reserve. Served from 12h00 to 14h00.
