Pinecreek Restaurant & Farmstall

11Pinecreek Restaurant and Farmstall, built in the Cape Dutch style, with its old-world charm is an architectural delight, idyllically and comfortably nestled in the gentle sloping green hills along the R102 (Old Gonubie Road) and conveniently located on the outskirts of Beacon Bay. The R102 forms part of the Jikeleza Route, East London’s premier tourism route and also its best-kept secret. The venue offers entertainment for the whole family to enjoy – farm-style shopping and fine dining combined with quality outdoor playtime for the kids in a peaceful, rural farm atmosphere.

Pinecreek is family friendly and children are especially catered for. The children’s play area is second to none and an ideal place for a child’s birthday party. Pinecreek offers three party venues, namely ‘The Jumping Giraffe, ‘The Spotted Monkey’ and ‘Jungle Beat’.

All aboard the Pinecreek Express! Everyone loves a train ride and our miniature steam locomotive modelled after an English classic, the South California Wagon, is perfect for everyone from young kids to adults. Children will love the train ride as it chugs and meanders through the gardens, over a river and through a tunnel along a 400m track.

The Farm stall offers a variety of locally sourced farm-style favourites – delicious preserves, wonderful freshly baked breads, a delectable selection of confectionery, and a range of other goods.

Take a break from shopping and enjoy a light breakfast or lunch in the restaurant or on the courtyard verandah while you watch the children in the play area or escape to the tea garden and relax in the shade of the pine and pecan nut trees while you take in the sprawling gardens and abundance of birdlife.

Pinecreek’s fully licensed restaurant brings you fine dining in the evenings from Tuesday to Saturday. Supported by gracious service, our creative culinary team under the experienced direction of executive chef Juan Klienhans delight in offering you a deliciously diverse a la carte menu using only the finest ingredients, primarily from local sources. We are pleased to offer guests a selection of signature dishes, classic European and Asian favourites combined with a traditional grill menu, gourmet burgers and pizza as well as Banting options – there is truly something for all tastes and occasions. Warm welcoming interiors, an idyllic setting and live evening performances by our masterful pianist create an inviting ambiance that makes this charming restaurant so unique.

Areena Riverside Resort

Areena Riverside Resort is situated on the banks of the Kwelera tidal river, 23 km east of East London city centre, at the beginning of the Cape Wild Coast. The dream of Ed and Karen Rathbone to have a unique family resort became a reality some 23 years ago and soon grew from strength to strength. After a lot of hard work and dedication, the caravan park was voted SA Top Resort 2004, after gaining public interest and became the hideout for those wanting to experience quality family time in the heart of nature.

Areena is Four Star and AA Highly Recommended where you can wake up to the call of the fish eagles.

We offer you unsurpassed views of the river, wildlife, birds and surrounding wild coast vegetation where cruises to the river mouth and beach can be arranged. You can virtually fish from your tent on river front sites, and also park your boat along the jetty directly in front of you. And everyone loves to meet Abby, our friendly giraffe!

Most early mornings will provide you with a spectacular visit of buck, monkeys and dassies on the other side of the river. Access to the beach is either by boat, river ferry, or a short trip by car.

We have recently created the Areena Adventure and Leisure Village. Various activities such as abseiling, mountain bike trails, hiking trails, quad biking safaris, paintball, archery and surf school can all be arranged.

Areena forms part of the popular "Wild Coast Jikeleza Route".

Ann Bryant Art Gallery

The Ann Bryant Art Gallery seeks through its collections of fine and decorative arts to increase aesthetic awareness of cultural diversity and to afford our whole community means of enjoyment and enrichment from the visual arts. It also seeks to promote the work of worthy contemporary Eastern Cape artists. The Ann Bryant has a strong collection of South African art, especially from the 1960’s but also earlier works.

At one time the East London Fine Art Society took over the running of the gallery and had major exhibitions, for example by Thinus de Jongh and Hugo Naude.  The gallery sometimes bought from these exhibitions.  It holds works by Norman Catherine, Judith Mason, Walter Battiss, Sydney Carter, George Pemba, John Maufangejo, Cyprian Shilakoe, Willie Bester and many others.
